2NE1 CL, First Solo SingleTitle Announced as ‘Nappun Gizibe’
2NE1′s leader CL announced on the 23rd through a teaser uploaded on the YG blog that her solo title, that will be her first in 4 years since debut, will be ‘Nappun Gizibe (BAD GIRL).
‘Nappun Gizibe (BAD GIRL)’ is a song title that gives off a powerful impression that is appropriate for the strong charisma and talent that CL shows in her performances on stage.
CL’s first solo ‘Nappun Gizibe (BAD GIRL)’ is expected to be a culmination of her abilities that have been perfected for a long period of time, as CL has often used the phrase ‘The Baddest Female’ in her autographs since her debut.
It was when CL was 16 that she first entered YG as a trainee with dreams of becoming a female rapper and being 23-years-old this year, CL has fulfilled her dreams with a solo debut after 7 years.
As a part of 2NE1, CL has shown a variety of rap songs for the past 4 years but as group activity is a mixed color that is made with many different colors including her own, her solo career will literally be an expression of her unique music personality and CL is known to be pouring all of her passion and efforts into the upcoming single.
CL has received private lessons in Japan to improve her choreography. She also made an appearance at all of the music video meetings and directly participated in giving ideas about the fashion and set of the music video, and personally contacted BIg Bang′s G-Dragon, Taeyang and other friends to appear in the ‘Nappun Gizibe (BAD GIRL)’ music video.
YG Entertainment (YG) revealed , “CL’s ‘Nappun Gizibe (BAD GIRL)’ is a modern track with perfected hip-hop sounds and a very slow hip-hop beat with 70 BPM which incorporates CL’s powerful rap along with dougie, dubstep and modern sounds.”
Seeing that CL’s ‘Nappun Gizibe (BAD GIRL)’ has not much difference from the recently released Vibe’s ballad track ‘E Nai Mugdolok (As Of This Age)’ that has a BPM of 63, curiosity is rising over what kind of a slow hip-hop track the upcoming solo will be.
YG also revealed that , “The strategy, as well as the point of ‘Nappun Gizibe (BAD GIRL)’ is how powerfully CL can pull off this slow beat hip-hop track.”
Another interesting point is that CL has the same title as the famous pop singer Lee Hyori’s new track ‘BAD GIRLS’. Also, both singers will be making an appearance during the same period and therefore viewers are up to watch an exciting show.
CL’s ‘Nappun Gizibe’ is translated in English as ‘BAD GIRL’, but as there is no other way to express the word in English, ‘Nappun Gizibe’ will be written as ‘BAD GIRL’ in countries abroad where the song is released.
YG announced that they have decided not to pre-release the track or the music video teaser before the 28th which is the official day of the track release. This is a strategy that will release the contents all at once with strong impact. CL, Chief Producer Yang Hyun Suk, staff producers, and all of the staff at YG are said to be highly satisfied with the track ‘Nappun Gizibe (BAD GIRL)’ and are looking forward to the release of the song.

[Exclusive] CL’s English solo song “Bad Girl” re-translated: Lee Hyori not the reason
The English title of CL’s new solo song “Bad Girl” is re-translated into “The Baddest Female.”
2NE1’s CL, the leader of the girl group consisting of other members Dara, Bom and Minji, will be making a solo debut for the first time since 2NE1’s first album release 4 years ago. The English title of her first solo song was originally titled “Bad Girl,” but now it is re-translated into a different one.
YG Entertainment, the agency to which CL belongs, told Stars News on May 23, “the original translation of the title was “Bad Girl,” and in the morning (of May 23), we revealed the title. But then afterwards CL suggested “The Baddest Female” instead, and the altered version was accepted. So our final decision was to title it “The Baddest Female,” just like what CL requested.”
“The Baddest Female” is a phrase well liked by all the members of the group, and has been used frequently as part of their autograph for their fans. Initially CL agreed to titling her new song “Bad Girl,” but after much consideration and contemplation she thought “The Baddest Female” gave it a more powerful feel and that also it was a phrase she often used. She suggested, to her entertainment agency, changing the title. CL is known for her politeness and is a “goodie,” but on stage she aims to be cool and powerful but bad at the same time. Thus she liked using the phrase “The Baddest Female.”
YG Entertainment was in full agreement with the newly solo-debuted artist, so the agency as a whole decided to change the English translation from “Bad Girl” to “The Baddest Female.”
When asked whether YG changed its mind because of the overlap with Lee Hyori’s 5th Album title “Bad Girls,” YG answered, “absolutely not.” YG then explained that “the title “Bad Girl” is a name we have decided a long time ago but “The Baddest Female” was also on the list. And there will be no changes made to the original Korean title.”
In the morning of May 23, personnel from YG Entertainment said, “the song “The Baddest Female” is utterly hip-hop with a very slow beat of BPM 70. It embraces Dougie and Dubstep, the newly surfaced genres. It goes amazingly well with the powerful rapping of CL. It is hip-hop, but it is fresh as it breaks away from the conventional hip-hop genre.”YG added, “CL turns 23 this year. She was only 16 when she first stepped into the YG building with a big dream of becoming a female rapper. Her solo debut is the very first trial after 7 years of training and being part of 2NE1. It is also her very first solo release, after 4 years of 2NE1’s debut in 2009.”
“For “The Baddest Female,” CL travelled all the way to Japan to get private dance lessons. Apart from that she also participated in more than 10 meetings held to discuss the production of her music video. She personally shared her ideas for the outfits and the setting. In the music video, fellow musicians like BigBang’s G-Dragon and Taeyang from YG Entertainment will make an appearance as well. Her artists friends will be helping her out for her solo debut,” person related to the matter explained.

[Exclusive] GD and Taeyang’s appearance in CL’s first solo MV confirmed
In CL’s (the leader of the group 2NE1) first solo music video, BigBang’s G-Dragon and Taeyang made an appearance. The artists all belong to the same Entertainment agency.
According to personnel from the music industry on May 21, YG Family (artists from YG Entertainment) decided to appear in CL’s music video to cheer her on for her first solo music video. All the artists are eager to help out their fellow musician who is under big pressure for the upcoming solo debut.
It will soon be 4 years since 2NE1 made a debut, and CL will mark the anniversary by making a debut on her own. It is said CL is weighed down by pressure because the outcome of her debut album can also have an effect on the entire group, which is also preparing for a comeback after a year. The fellow artists’ keen effort to help out CL shows the strong bond between the members of YG Family.
The first solo music video with the appearance of other YG members is a somewhat unfamiliar genre for many Korean people. It fits in a new category of Dougie and Dubstep genres with a hip-hop beat to it.
For the last few years, “cutesy” or “sexy” concept became mainstream among girl groups that flooded the Korean music industry. On the other hand, female musicians of hip-hop style became almost obsolete. So it is no wonder that expectations for CL’s first hip-hop solo song are even higher.
However, despite CL’s solo debut nearing its D-Day, YG is strictly keeping everything under the veil. The secrecy is building up curiosity among the fans as basic information like the song title or teaser images were not yet released.
The tension intensifies as CL making a comeback in the same month as highly popular female artists like Lee Hyori, Seo In Young and Ivy. It will inevitably lead to a competition among them.
Meanwhile, YG’s CEO Yang Hyun-suk gave a heart-warming advice to CL that “it does not matter what rank you come in, just enjoy the moment.” Yang is not scared or worried about the newly debuting artist, but he is simply encouraging CL to enjoy what she does because he already knows, from all the big hits 2NE1 achieved, that CL is more than capable of acing any tasks given to her.
CL will be coming back with her first solo song on May 28.
